How to Use Your Simple Free Budget Planner 💰

Once your app is open in a new window or RStudio pane, here's how to navigate it and start tracking your money:

1. Enter Your Monthly/Weekly Income

  • Look for the "Monthly Income:" box in the left sidebar.

  • Type your total monthly income (the money you expect to receive) into this box.

  • The summary on the right will update immediately.

2. Add Your Expenses

  • Below your income, you'll see "Add Expenses:".

  • Type Category: In this box, type the name of an expense category (e.g., Rent, Groceries, Travel, Utilities, Subscriptions).

  • Amount: In the box below, type the numeric amount for that expense.

  • Click the "Add Expense" button.

  • You'll see the expense appear in the "Budget Summary" table on the right, and the totals will update.

  • Repeat these steps for every expense you have.

3. Clear Expenses (If Needed)

  • If you want to start fresh or remove all the expenses you've added, click the "Clear All Expenses" button in the left sidebar.

4. Understand Your Budget Summary

  • Expense Table: This shows a list of all the categories and amounts you've entered.

  • Total Expenses: The sum of all the expenses you've added.

  • Remaining Budget: Your monthly income minus your total expenses. This tells you how much money you have left (or if you've gone over!).

  • Budget Status: A quick message letting you know if you're within your budget or if you need to review your spending.

5. Check Your Visuals

  • Expense Breakdown (Pie Chart): As you add expenses, a pie chart will automatically appear below the summary. This visual quickly shows you what percentage of your total expenses each category takes up (e.g., 10% food, 20% car).

6. Personalize Your View

  • Enable Dark Mode: At the top left, check the "Enable Dark Mode" box to switch between light and dark themes for easier viewing, especially in low light.

  • Choose Currency: Use the "Choose Currency:" dropdown at the top right to select your preferred currency symbol (£, $, or €). All the money values will update to show this symbol.

7. Download & Print Your Results

  • Download Expenses CSV: Click this button (top right) to download a spreadsheet file (.csv) containing all your expense categories and amounts. Great for keeping records!

  • Print Page: Click this button (top right) to open your browser's print dialog. You can then print the entire app's current view to a physical printer or save it as a PDF.

That's it! Just input your numbers, watch the magic happen, and use the tools to keep track.
